Scholarships

The Mu Sigma Upsilon Foundation offers scholarships to the sisters of Mu Sigma Upsilon as well as high school and collegiate community leaders to help offset the cost of their college education. Scholarships applications will open each year on January 15th and must be submitted by March 15th. Scholarship recipients will be announced during Mu Sigma Upsilon National Convention held every June. The following are descriptions of each scholarship offered as well as the qualifications needed.

Lucy Dipini Memorial Scholarship

In 1997, the MSU Alumnae Association established a Memorial Scholarship Fund that distinguished the contributions of late sister, Lucy Dipini, from the Mosaic Chapter of Mu Sigma Upsilon, who was killed in an automobile accident earlier that year. Only 27 at the time of her death, she embodied the characteristics we seek in a sister, an honest, trustworthy friend, dedicated to her family and community. She excelled in school, graduated, and remained active within the sorority. This scholarship in the amount of $500 is funded by the Districts of Mu Sigma Upsilon and is determined through applications. The LDMS is open to collegiate sisters who are in need of financial support, involved within the community at large, maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and considered in good standing (within Mu Sigma Upsilon) the fiscal year prior to convention. Apply Here

Danielle N. Smith Aretias Graduate Scholarship

This scholarship distinguishes the contributions of late sister, Danielle N. Smith and her over 25 years of service to MSU making significant impacts nationally and locally. Danielle played an integral part in the establishment of the Aretias Graduate Chapter and she was a champion of higher education earning her Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree. This scholarship in the amount of $500 is funded by the Aretias Graduate Chapter of Mu Sigma Upsilon is awarded to an Aretias sister and is determined through applications. Scholarship applicant must demonstrate commitment to study, academic discipline, university and community leadership, integrity in action, and strength of character. Applicant must be enrolled in a master’s program (Certificates or Professional Programs do not apply) with a minimum grade point average of 3.50 and considered in good standing (within Mu Sigma Upsilon) the fiscal year prior to convention. Stella Cadente Scholarship

A stella cadente, Italian for shooting star, is a rapidly moving, temporary meteor reaching towards the earth’s atmosphere. Embarking on a journey to explore the world and immerse oneself in a new culture can be the experience of a lifetime. This scholarship is awarded to a sister who has been accepted to a study abroad program or cultural excursion program (i.e. missionary trip). The awarded monetary scholarship will be $500.  This scholarship is determined through applications. Scholarship applicants must submit a description of the importance of the trip and how they will benefit culturally. Scholarship applicants must be considered in good standing (within Mu Sigma Upsilon) the fiscal year prior to convention. Apply Here

Ceannaire Scholarship

The Ceannaire, Irish for leader, scholarship is awarded to an alumna sister currently serving on MSU’s National Governing Council. Applicant must qualify as a role model to her peers and exhibit traits worth emulating by other sisters in Mu Sigma Upsilon. Applicant must demonstrate commitment to MSU, discipline, community leadership, integrity in action, and strength of character. This scholarship in the amount of $500 may be used to further the recipient’s educational or professional goals and is funded by the National Governing Council of Mu Sigma Upsilon. This scholarship  is determined through applications. Therefore, the Mu Sigma Upsilon Foundation will consider the applicant’s professional accomplishments and service within Mu Sigma Upsilon to determine recipient. Bow and Arrow Scholarship

This scholarship is open to high school senior women who are in need of financial support, involved within the community at large, and have maintained a minimum high school grade point average of 3.50. Applicants must have been accepted to a 4 year collegiate institution. This scholarship in the amount of $500 is funded by donations made to the Mu Sigma Upsilon Foundation and is determined through applications submitted to the Mu Sigma Upsilon Foundation. Apply Here

Alzando Scholarship

Alzando is the Spanish verb for the act of uplifting. The Alzando Scholarship is awarded to two (2) individuals, one male and one female, working to positively lift up their campus communities. The Scholarship is open to full-time collegiates attending University of Central Florida. Applicant must be in their 1st or 2nd year of post-secondary education, have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and have demonstrated campus and/or community involvement. This scholarship in the amount of $250 is funded by Sunville Lawn Care LLC in Jacksonville, FL and is determined through applications submitted to the Mu Sigma Upsilon Foundation. Apply Here

Agbara Scholarship

The Agbara, Yoruba for power, scholarship is awarded to any sister currently serving in any position of MSU’s District Boards; as district board officers are meant to empower and give voice to chapters while helping them develop socially and professionally. Applicants must qualify as a role model to her peers and exhibit traits worth emulating by other sisters in Mu Sigma Upsilon. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to MSU by being a communicative liaison between their position and their corresponding NGC counterpart; community leadership by promoting effective chapter development; and integrity in action by promoting positive interactions with and among undergraduates. This scholarship in the amount of $500 may be used to further the recipient’s educational or professional goals and is funded by the combined contributions of the MSU National Governing Council and District Boards. The Mu Sigma Upsilon Foundation will consider the applicant’s professional accomplishments and service within Mu Sigma Upsilon to determine the recipient. De La Cruz-Velasquez First Generation Scholarship

The De La Cruz-Velasquez First Gen Scholarship, aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of recipients at Kutztown University, empowering them to achieve their academic and career aspirations while creating a positive influence with their communities. The De La Cruz-Velasquez First Gen Scholarship is open to Full-time collegiates attending Kutztown University. Applicant must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and submit two letters of recommendation from an administrator, staff, faculty, mentor, or community leader demonstrating campus and/or community involvement; as well a one page essay sharing your personal journey as a first-generation college student including how this scholarship will benefit you at Kutztown University.  Apply Here
